McMahon/Ryan Child Advocacy Site Partners With Wegmans To Promote Child Abuse Awareness

Did you know that 1 in 3 girls and 1 in 6 boys will be victims of some form of sexual abuse by the age of 18?   In response to this epidemic, April has been designated National Child Abuse Awareness Month, which is intended to raise the public's consciousness about the severity of this issue and to arm community members with tools to help prevent the maltreatment of children.

In observance, McMahon/Ryan Child Advocacy Site is partnering with Wegmans Food Markets to sell handmade pins in Syracuse stores throughout the month of April.   The unique jewelry is made by local artist Frank Delucia.   The proceeds from the sale of these unique pins will go to McMahon/Ryan Child Advocacy Site to support its mission.   The site is a child-friendly and safe place that assists with prevention, investigation, prosecution, and treatment of local child abuse cases.

In addition, McMahon/Ryan Child Advocacy Site organized a poster contest with the Wegmans Food Markets Fairmount store, Clear Channel Radio and Donna Rusho's fourth grade class at Onondaga Central School District 's Wheeler Elementary School .   Each student in Mrs. Rusho's class made a poster under the theme “I Feel Safe When…” and they are proudly displayed throughout the month of April at the Wegmans Fairmount Store.   The top five posters will be chosen by Wegmans employees and put up on WSYR's website for the general public to vote on the number one poster.   Look for the top five winners April 25 th through April 30 th .
