Back to School!

Thursday, August 4, 2016

It’s just about back to school time, which means we’re gearing up to get back into classrooms and present our child safety programs to the kids! Our H5! Program is a four week program for students Pre-K through 2nd grade, and teaches them lots of different ways to stay safe! We cover topics including how to calm ourselves down if we feel anger, what to do if a stranger talks to us, how to handle a situation where people start to fight, and understanding that our bodies are our own and how we can keep them safe! Our No Bully Zone program is designed for 3rd-5th grades, and is only a two week program. Through lots of discussion students talk about different types of bullying, where they are seeing it, and what they can do to help. They talk about ways to be a Brave Bystander, which is someone who makes the choice to help out when they see someone being bullied. Our Internet Safety program is a onetime presentation designed for 6th grade through High School, but can be adapted to lower grades levels. We work with the Onondaga County District Attorney’s Office to teach students what it means to be a Digital Citizen, and understanding their responsibility with the internet. Each year our numbers have grown tremendously for the number of kids we reach with our school programs, and we can’t wait to get back into schools and to work with the students!
